Winter is the perfect time to declutter. It’s a great feeling to get all the things you aren’t using out of the house before spring arrives. But that begs the question: what do you do with all that stuff?
Anything that is broken or unusable can go to the trash, but what about those things that could be used by someone else? Donation is the obvious answer. Donating unused or unwanted household items is the perfect way to clear clutter from your home while helping someone else at the same time.
Designating items for donation is one thing; actually getting them to their destination is another. Your donated items don’t help anyone if they’re sitting in your garage or rattling around in the trunk of your car. Luckily, there are several local organizations that will not only accept your gently used items, they will also pick them up for you. All you do is schedule a pick-up and leave the items on your porch.
Here are four places that will pick up your donations for you:
Goodwill is the go-to for most people when it comes to donating household items and clothes. What most people don’t know is that Goodwill will pick up items from your home! This service is perfect for larger items that may be hard to transport to Goodwill on your own.
Donate Stuff is a national website that connects users to local charities that will pick up donations. In the Indianapolis area, donations are picked up by AmVets. Be sure to see what kinds of items are accepted before scheduling your donation.
This site is similar to DonateStuff.com, but locally the donations are accepted by Wheeler Mission and resold in their thrift store to help support their work. Make sure the items you donate are in sellable condition!
St Vincent DePaul Indianapolis
St. Vincent DePaul works with the poorest residents of the Indianapolis area to provide food, clothing, job placement, and other needs. They do donation pickups every Saturday. They accept most household items, but cannot take donations of mattresses, box springs, or bed frames.
Dress for Success Indianapolis
Although this organization does not pick up donations from your home, we wanted to mention them because we feel so strongly about what they do. Dress for Success collects gently used women’s professional clothing and distributes it to women who are in need of clothing for interviews or new jobs. If you have professional attire to donate, this is a great cause to support!
Once the clutter is cleared, Housekeeping Maid Easy can step in to help with the upkeep, so you can make the most of your free time. Contact us today to get started!
